If you were wondering why newly acquired DE Antwan Barnes’ name might sound somewhat familiar check out the video below.
Barnes is another smallish, fast end who’s frenetic playing style should help him make his mark on special teams.

I guess speculation that Andy Reid, a BYU alum, would pursue RB Harvey Unga in the NFL Supplemental Draft was misplaced.
Unga, BYU’s all-time leading rusher, was selected by the Chicago Bears with the 12th pick in the seventh round. The Eagles pick in the seventh round was after the Bears (28th overall), so I have no idea whether they put a bid in for Unga. But it also means the Birds thought little enough of Unga to not give up their sixth-round pick in the 2011 draft to get select him.
Reid has been very open about his love of drafting/signing fellow Cougars. Since his arrival he has drafted or signed Reno Mahe, Scott Young, Justin Ena, Lee Johnson, and Dallas Reynolds.
It’s not surprising the Birds didn’t reach for Unga though. With LeSean McCoy already entrenched as the starter, and Leonard Weaver a capable short-yardage back, the Eagles have 2010 draft choice Charles Scott, Eldra Buckley, Dwayne Wright, and Martell Mallett battling for the third back spot.
As a proud JMU alumni the fact OLB Arthur Moats visited the Eagles today took my mind off Donovan McNabb holding up that hideous burgundy and gold jersey yesterday (or at least it stopped me from throwing up in my mouth).
My fellow Duke won the 2009 Buck Buchanan Award as the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly known as 1-AA). He played DE at JMU but projects to OLB because of his size (6-0/246). Probably a better fit in a 3-4 scheme where he can just go get the QB I still would love to see him in Philly as a special teams kamikaze and occasional pass rusher.
Of course I may be a bit biased. Go Dukes!
The Birds signed former Air Force Falcon WR Chad Hall today after he served his required two-year stint as a second lieutenant. Hall was a dynamic player at Air Force and reminds me of former-Eagle Jeremy Bloom. Let’s just hope Hall can bring a punt back more than 4 feet before tripping over himself.
Here’s a couple of videos of Hall in action:

The Eagles signed Canadian Football League Most Outstanding Rookie Award winner Martell Mallett earlier today and I just wanted to throw out some YouTube footage of the former Arkansas-Pine Bluff star.
Mallett played for the B.C. Lions in 2009, rushing for 1,240 yards and catching 43 passes for 342 more. Mallett was not drafted out of college. Here’s his profile from NFLDraftScout.com.
