Andrew Baggarly, the San Francisco Giants beat writer for the San Jose Mercury News, speculates that the Phillies free agent Pat Burrell may have a desire to play in San Fran, as well as having a possible advocate in Aaron Rowand.
Took my first walkabout through the Bellagio and chatted with Bruce Bochy and Felipe Alou.
Bochy said he and GM Brian Sabean had dinner last night with Aaron Rowand, who lives in Las Vegas. Purely a social call, though I’m sure they bounced some ideas off him. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Rowand lobbied for his former Phillies teammate and good friend Pat Burrell. While Burrell would love to play for the Giants, he’s far down their list because he wouldn’t be a defensive fit.
It’d be tough to see both Pat and Aaron in that OF, but I really believe at this point Burrell is destined to be DH’ing in some AL city come April.
